The Bentall Centre is a Kingston institution. Containing 75 stores offering over 1,000 brands and attracting 14 million visitors each year, it is a retail gem. The store dates back to 1867 but opened in its current form almost 20 years ago. Its atrium is higher than the nave of Westminster Abbey and the Aston Webb façade is inspired by Wren’s design for Hampton Court. The centre has about 2,000 fibre optic lights set into a white metal framework which gives the impression of shopping under the stars, at night. Premium department store Bentalls is the centre’s anchor.
