Community spirit takes to Kingston as the Regatta and Gloriana come to town

//
Categories,

Kingston riverside was buzzing with community spirit as Kingston Regatta came to town and was joined by the Queen’s royal rowbarge over the weekend (8 and 9 July).

Kingston Rowing Club was home to the 275 races which took place over the course of the weekend.

On attending the event, the Mayor of Kingston, Councillor Julie Pickering, said:

“What a fantastic weekend on the riverside, one of our Royal Borough’s best assets. Kingston Regatta is, in fact, bigger than Henley. It was great to see so many rowing clubs from across the South of England taking part and Kingston Rowing Club winning the overall award was a perfect end to a great day. Seeing CNM Estates supporting the event to enable more grassroots level rowing was fantastic. It’s my hope that many more local companies get behind our future community events in the borough.

“I was equally delighted to see the Queen’s royal rowbarge, Gloriana, taking pride of place on the Thames. Kingston riverside has been chosen to moor the boathouse, with proposals currently being drafted within a wider riverside planning document. The future for the river is hugely exciting and I look forward to seeing what’s to come.”
